Born and raised in Kobe, Editor Yukako Shimada studied directing in the most famous and reputed film school in Japan, Nihon University located in Tokyo. She made two documentaries and two narrative films at Nihon University with 16mm and old style editing system with a viewer and Steinbeck. Soon, Yukako became addicted to editing, and as such she headed to the US to hone her editing skills at Chapman University.
While at Chapman, she edited award winning thesis films with varieties of short films. At the end of the MFA program, Yukako won the best editing for TURN AROUND at Cecil B. DeMille Awards. Currently she is working for Stan Winston Studio as an assistant editor. Here in Los Angeles she plays parts in many projects as an editor and sound designer.
